Tapió: Design your appetite

Product Design • Branding • Art Direction • Photography • Book Design

Tapió is not only a delicious snack, but also a food design case study developed as part of the Appetite Loop research. The product explores how taste can be shaped not only by ingredients but also by context, perception, and design.

Using tapioca as a versatile base ingredient, Tapió investigates how food can function as a sensory and cultural medium. The product is a crisp, neutral-tasting tapioca pearl sheet designed to be paired with various toppings, allowing participants to build and explore their own flavor combinations. Every stage of development was guided by the brand purpose of turning taste into an intentional and playful design experience, from ingredient selection and preparation methods to visual identity, typography, color, and packaging.

Through a series of experiential tastings and participatory experiments, Tapió invites participants to slow down, observe, and reconnect with the act of eating. Each element of the experience is intentionally designed to highlight how flavor, texture, visual cues, and environment influence perception. By translating research into a tangible product and brand, Tapió shows how designers can shape not only how food looks, but how it is experienced, interpreted, and shared
